Where can I work as a sociologist?
Sociology is the study of society that aims to understand, analyse, and explain the structure and evolution of societies, their institutions and social groups, as well as human behaviour within social contexts.
Studying sociology enhances your skills in observation, analysis, and research, equipping you to become a professional sociologist. This expertise prepares you for a wide range of careers, including roles such as data analyst, public policy analyst, policy advisor, program evaluator, program manager, research designer, educator, school counsellor, and more.
Sociology graduates are active in a variety of fields, including civil society organisations, political initiatives, social work centres, schools, research institutes, journalism, academia, and more.
What study programmes does the Department of Sociology offer?
The Department of Sociology offers a comprehensive academic experience with both a three-year bachelor's programme and a two-year master's programme.
In addition to lectures and coursework, students engage in a variety of research projects and activities, providing valuable networking opportunities with professors, organisations, and institutions, while also gaining practical work experience.
The department also offers opportunities for study visits abroad, with many students participating in the Erasmus+ exchange programme for an academic semester. This experience allows them to expand their academic and cultural perspectives while connecting with students and professors from around the world.
Extracurricular activities at the Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology offers a vibrant array of extracurricular activities designed to enrich students' academic and professional development, including conferences, symposiums, specialised trainings, public lectures, and reading groups, such as the Power and Ideology Reading Group (PIRG). Additionally, it hosts events as part of the Kuvendi i Sociologjisë (Sociology Assembly) (https://www.facebook.com/groups/kuvendi and https://x.com/KuvendiSoc), where students can engage in discussions and workshops. Additionally, the department participates in summer schools, such as the sociological courses at the Prishtina International Summer University.
The department supports students in gaining practical experience through internships at various governmental institutions, research institutes, and NGOs.
