“Lineages of Sociological Thought and Practice: Rethinking Continuities and Transformations in Contemporary Society”
Date of the Conference: December 3, 2025
Venue: Prishtina and Online
Conference Languages: Albanian and English
The Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina,” is pleased to invite local and international scholars and researchers to participate in its inaugural international scientific conference. This academic forum seeks to critically examine the trajectories, continuities, and transformations of sociological thought and praxis in response to the pressing complexities of contemporary social life.
In an era marked by intensifying global crises, systemic inequalities, and structural transformations that continue to reshape the foundations of collective existence, the conference aims to create a space for revisiting, reimagining, and rearticulating sociology from the margins. These margins are understood not only as geographical peripheries but as epistemic spaces—sites of alternative knowledge production, resistance, and potentiality—through which sociological inquiry might be expanded beyond frameworks that have historically constrained and defined it.
Within the thematic scope of the conference, we welcome scholarly contributions that critically engage with, but are not limited to, the following areas of inquiry:
- Genealogies and legacies of sociological thought
- Engagements with peripheral epistemologies and alternative knowledge formations
- Trajectories of Albanian sociological thought – continuities and ruptures
- Historicity, structures, and epistemic encounters in the development of sociological knowledge in Kosovo
- Sociology and artificial intelligence: challenges and opportunities
- Doing sociology today: fieldwork, practice, and methodological challenges
- Empirical practice and peripheral realities in a globalized world
- Sociological knowledge and the shaping of public policy
- Toward a public and engaged sociology: intervention as academic responsibility
